 Geraldine "Gerry" Heck Conrad


Age 88 of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee died August 14, 2007 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.  She was born February 9, 1919 in Olean, Cattaraugus, New York.  Preceded in death by husband Elmer Lee Conrad, Esq.  Survived by sons LCDR Daniel Lee Conrad, USN (Ret) of Michigan;  David William Conrad of Ohio; twin daughters Carolyn Conrad Hoffmann of Michigan and Marilyn Conrad Astroth of Arizona.  Grandsons Michael Lee Conrad, Stephen David Conrad, Christopher Lee Conrad and LTJD Kurt Conrad Astroth, USN.  Brother Robert Henry Heck of Maryland.

The Conrad's were long time residents of Commerce Twp. (Walled Lake), Oakland, Michigan.  Mrs. Conrad retired from Walled Lake Consolidated Schools where she worked in the counseling office of Walled Lake Central High School.  She graduated from Olean High School and Northbrook Academy.  Elmer and Gerry were married on October 11, 1941 at the Olean First United Methodist Church.  A life long member of the United Methodist Church in Walled Lake and Fairfield Glade, she actively supported Methodist Women's groups and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxuliary.  A Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Internation Foundation supporter she traveled around the world for Rotary programs.  Numerous foreign exchange students were hosted and assisted by the Conrad's in the Youth for Understanding programs over a forty-year period to promote international relations.

Gerry came from an American pioneering family.  Ancestry is researched back to Master Steven Hopkins, of Jamestown, Jamestown Island, Virginia Colony of 1607 and to fellow "Mayflower Compact" signer John Billington, "Mayflower" Cape Cod, Plymouth, Massachuesetts Colony in 1620.  Ancestors and descendents have provided military service for American citizens in every conflict since King Philip's War of 1675.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Grosse Point United Methodist Church, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Friday August 31, 2007 at 11:00 AM.  The Reverend Roger Lee Colby, her nephew, will officiate.
