Jay C. Kenney
of Algonac, MI passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2013, at the age of 85. He was born October 24, 1927 in Detroit, Mi to the late George and Marie Kenney. Jay attended Albion College and graduated from Michigan State University. He married Jere Morris on December 1, 1951 in Williamston, Michigan. They were married for over 6o years until Jere’s death on September 30, 2012.
Jay taught American History for many years at Anchor Bay High School and he was also the owner of the Salt River Marina, as well as Kenney's Marina. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew of his love of history and his amazing memory -- he could rattle off names and dates of all things historical and we were all mesmerized by his stories. Jay made history fun and he enriched the lives of all who knew him. Jay and Jere loved entertaining family and friends on their deck in Algonac during the summer months and vacationing dur ing the winter months in Port Charlotte, FL with their “winter family”.
Jay is survived by his children Kimberly Kenney, Jeb (Denise) Kenney, Jan (John) Kenney-Space, and Melanie (John) Lindsay; his grandsons Jeb Kenney Jr., Griffin Kenney, Josh Lindsay, and Dylan Lindsay. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jane Rushford and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Marie Kenney, wife Jere Kenney, brothers George and Lee Kenney, nephew Tom Kenney and brother-in law William Rushford.
In keeping with the wishes of Jay, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
