Charles P. Ames
age 80 of Croswell, MI died November 6, 2010 after a long illness. He was born December 6, 1929 to the late Robert and Geneva Ames in St. Clair, MI. He married Jean Ann Britz at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City, MI on August 20, 1949.
Charles’ achievements included the design and building of the first fiberglass Frank Motorhome, the designing of Chris-Craft Pram Boats, and the redesigning of the jet boats for Indiana Gear. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and building model airplanes. He retired from General Motors in 1982.
Mr. Ames is survived by his wife of 61 years Jean Ann, children, Sharon (Alex) Torres, Charles (Debbie) Jr., Thomas (Patti), and Debbie Ames-McFadden, siblings Robert (Joanne) Ames, James Ames, Carol (Ken) Kensington, and Mary (Spencer) Adkins, brother-in-law Kenny Stockwell, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters-in-law, Diane Ames and Rosemary Stockwell.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 15, 2010 in the St. Catherines Catholic Church, Algonac, MI. Arrangements by the Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac. Memorial donations may be made to the Family Wishes.
