Don Verslype,
age 78, died at his home in Clinton Township on Saturday, August 23, 2014.  Don is survived by his wife Jeanie, children Jim (Kathy) Verslype and Laurie (Bruce) Van Vliet and grandchildren Thomas Verslype, Jennifer Verslype, and Amanda Giegler.  Don is also survived by his bother Jim (Laurie) Verslype and their children Michael, Justin and Stephen.

Don was a devoted and loving husband, a caring and understanding father, and a supportive and thoughtful grandfather.  In addition, he was a fun loving friend with lifelong relationships from his elementary and high school years growing up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and with extremely close friendships established over 60 years on Harsens Island and in Algonac, Michigan.

Don retired from Ford Motor Company in 1993 after 31 years as a manager in engineering data systems and later in operations.  He also worked part-time following his retirement from Ford Motor Company for MSI International Autoflex, Inc., as divisional manager for Ford accounts, when he finally retired in 1996.

For more than 65 years, Don enjoyed his spare time at Harsens Island Michigan at his parent’s cottage just outside of San Souci on Mackinaw and later at a cottage that he designed and built near his closest and cherished friends.  When the Harsens Island ferry gate dropped and he drove onto the island it was time to unwind and to enjoy his family and friends.

Don enjoyed many interests but what he enjoyed most were incredible friends, lots of laughs, playing his accordion, and listening and dancing to big band music.  He brought a bright and cheerful spirit to any social gathering and he will be deeply missed by all that he touched and that knew him.  He was loved by his family and friends but most of all by his beloved wife and partner, Jeanie, of more than 55 years.

Memorial Services will take place at Gilbert Funereal Home in Algonac, Michigan on Sunday, September 21st from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM followed by a eulogy at 12:30 PM and luncheon, with details provided at the funeral home.
